The Fire Brigade were offering fire checks for people’s homes.
SCC had set up a workshop to see what could be done re: climate change.
The flower cauldrons outside Bodmin Avenue shops cost £163 each to replant.
The Brethren were thanked for purchasing new Speedwatch guns.
Silver Sunday had been a success.
The County Councillors’ funding for local communities and charities had been reduced and the criteria changed.
**Volunteers were requested for driving people to and from the Tuesday Club. (A suggestion was made from the floor that the Good Neighbour Scheme be contacted).
STAFFORD POLICE – Dan Ferguson. Since 1st June the crime figures for the area were: Criminal Damage – 4, Burglary – 2 (1 shed, 1 home), Thefts – 6, Vehicle Crime – 12 (6 in last month). Vans were being targeted.
RIVERWAY LINK – John Potter. Work on the basin had been progressing well. More finance and volunteers were required. **There would be a Folk Night (free entry) on 29th November to raise funds.
QUESTIONS/ STATEMENTS FROM THE FLOOR
Issues around parking around schools. The Police could loan cones to support local people. This was tried outside St. Anne’s but just moved the problem further down the street. The Police had also tried leafleting.
Double parking outside Leasowes had prevented a fire engine from getting through.
**Ann Edgeller was asked to see if the Police Commissioner could look into this.
A question was raised about using a pull in on Bodmin Ave but this had been raised before and dismissed as a practical solution.
It was mentioned that the problems were especially bad between 8 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. They were exacerbated by school children cycling dangerously, double parking, parking on wavy lines and engines left running (causing pollution).
Buses. Lack of buses on Wildwood. Residents on Hilcroft Park had no amenities or buses and felt isolated.
It was recognised that somebody living in Lodgefield could not get back from town or into town after 3 p.m.
**Ann Edgeller and Cllrs Baron to meet with Arriva.
Thefts, etc. Concern was raised about a van frequently seen around Baswich Crest. This could actually be a Police “bait van.”
Could the police have mobile CCTV? It might not work as the drivers’ filmed on it could just be bona fide drivers.
It was suggested that tools should be marked with a special ultra violet pen.
253 square miles were covered by just 6 officers.
Road markings. There was a lack of these in town as many lines and yellow boxes had faded. **Ann would speak to Highways.
Traffic was recognised as being poor especially when Junctions 12 – 14 of the M6 were shut/slow.
A park and ride scheme was mentioned.
Why are there road works on the Cannock Road? Phone mast works.
Is it possible for temporary traffic lights to be packed up when the road works are not actually taking place? **Ann Edgeller would take this point up.
Is it criminal to move them ourselves? No answer!
MP – Jeremy Lefroy tried to get to this meeting but was stuck on a train from London. He would be standing down at the next election. The meeting thanked Jeremy Lefroy in his absence for his services.
New surgery? There were no plans at present due to lack of funding from NHS England. However, the proposed merger with Castlefields would enable the practice to apply for funding for renovation, alterations, etc
